Background

The Los Banos Airport is a General Aviation Airport with 3,000' X 75' runway with a full return taxiway. There are currently 24 based aircraft at the Airport, and plans are in the works to expand the number of hangars by eight T-hangars, and one 120'x85' corporate hangar.

The Public Services Department, with the support of various divisions, performs airport maintenance and operation. Financial support for Airport operation is obtained primarily from income generated from hangar rentals, land leases, tie-down fees, and Avgas sales. The Airport also receives an annual Grant from the State that is used for maintenance and operations, with safety items having first priority in the allocation of funds. The latest Airport Master Plan was completed in 1995 and covers the planned expansion, as well as, projected use of the Airport for a period of 20 years (1995/2015). If you wish to look at the plan, you can do so at the Public Services Office locate at 830 6th street, or at Los Banos City Hall 520 J street Los Banos, CA. 93635. You can also purchase copies of the plan for $20.00 each. For further information, call the Public Services Office at (209) 827-7034 or E-mail your request to Joe.Sousa@losbanos.org

The five members of the Los Banos Airport Commission serve as the advisory body to the City Council in matters having to do with the development, and operations of the airport. The commission meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 5:00pm. Meetings are held at city hall council chambers, and all are invited to attend. If you would like to receive meeting agendas or to be added to the mailing list to receive copies of the agendas please call the Los Banos Public Services office at 209-827-7034, and request to be put on the airport commission agenda mailing list.

The Airport is operational on a 24-hour basis with automated fuel service available around the clock. Available fuel types are 100LL and Jet-A. Security fencing surrounds the Airport and access is provided to users by an automated gate.

Plans are in the works to extend the runway an additional 800 feet with a return taxiway, improve the lighting system, automated weather station, acquire property adjacent to the airport, and other enhancements that will increase the usefulness and safety of airport operations. Funding for the planned improvements is provided through FAA grants, and State Airport Improvement funding that has been secured for these projects.

Currently improvements include the newly constructed 8 Nest T-hangars to provide additional space for housing aircraft. The new pilots lounge and Transportation Services Center recently opened during the fall of 2000. This center will also serve as an additional stop for the local public bus service. It is hoped that these additional services will meet the needs of airport users who have often requested that these services be provided at the airport.

To inquire about any additional information please direct your calls to the Los Banos Public Services department at 209-827-7034, or E-mail to Joe.Sousa@losbanos.org
