The City of Los Banos encourages residents to host garage and yard sales as a great way to recycle your unwanted household items and make money while doing it. In order to prevent these rummage sales from becoming a proprietary business of a residence, the City of Los Banos adopted Ordinance No. 1144 requiring anyone who wishes to conduct a garage or yard sale to register with the City.
All garage or yard sales shall be registered with the City through the Community and Economic Development Department, prior to the time of the sale. Registration can be done using either the online form or a paper form available in the Community & Economic Development Department at City Hall at 520 J Street. Registration must be received by the Community & Economic Development Department by 4:00 p.m. the last business day before the expected sale.
Online registration is simple and easy. All you need to do is fill in the fields below and submit the online form by 4:00 p.m. the last business day before an expected sale in order to register. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required.

Remember, it is illegal to affix signs to utility poles or traffic lights, street sign poles, in medians, in the public right-of-way, or on any public facility.
The City is authorized to remove garage sale signs that are not in compliance with these standards. Please keep track of your signs and remove according to these standards.

According to Los Banos Municipal Code Sections 9-3.3803(b)(5)(a-d), four garage or yard sales in any twelve-month period, not exceeding two consecutive days each, shall be deemed a use incidental to the residential use of a property. Garage or yard sales in excess of this limit shall be prohibited in all residential zones. Garage sales are limited to the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. No outdoor storage shall be allowed. All sale items shall be removed from public view at the end of each sale date. All merchandise to be sold shall be displayed on a private lot and not within the public right-of-way.
